US/Canadian Graduates (MDs only):
American Citizenship: American graduates: no
Medical School: Must be a graduate of a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
Post-graduate training: One year ACGME/CCME-approved training in the U.S. or Canada, four months of which must be general medicine (if started after 7/1/90).
Board Certification: Not required.
National Boards: Accepted
Flex: Accepted. Distinction between old and new exams: Old exams: Must have obtained a weighted average of 75 of better. New exams: Must have obtained a score of 75 or better on each component within a three-year period. Limit is two times.
LMCC: Accepted
State Exam: Accepted. If taken after 1969, applicant is required to take USMLE Parts I, II and III. If taken before 1969, must have completed two years PGT.
USMLE: Accepted
SPEX: If applicant does not have two years of PGT or is not board certified, applicant must take the SPEX. (lifetime certification is acceptable)
Foreign Medical Graduates:
FMGs must comply with all requirements of U.S. & Canadian graduates.
American Citizenship: Yes, or must be licensed in another state.
Post-graduate training: 2 years
National Boards: N/A
FLEX: Accepted. Limit is two times.
USMLE: Accepted
ECFMG: Required
5th Pathway: Accepted. The one year of academic 5th Pathway training may count for one of the three years of PGT.

Permanent:
The application is not processed for 45 to 60 days after it reaches the Board. When the file is 100 percent, if it is a "clean application," the license number will be issued within one week. They license on Thursdays.
Fees:
Permanent: $508 processing fee + $600 license fee = $1108 (if a resident is in an approved program in CA, fee is $300)
Board Meetings Schedule: As needed to update rules and regulations.
Pending Malpractice: Applicant may apply, but no number will be issued until the case is fully resolved.
